Job Seeking Tips
Start thinking about employment options NOW!
Jobs don’t just happen to people. You need to enlist your family/friends to help you think about your skills/talents/abilities and then evaluate your future job options. Do things now to gain work skills and experience.
Go out and look at what people are doing in their jobs:
Would you like a job like they are doing? Ask the person about what they like about their job, how they got the job, and what skills they needed to get the job.
Volunteer:
Call your local volunteer center for referrals, examples: animal care, plant care, senior activities, child care, wood working, receptionist, computer educator, driver, inventory control helper, data entry, theater set builder, tour guide, concert usher, homework helper, copier, math or reading tutor and more. Show that you can be a consistent, friendly, on-time person who makes a difference in people’s lives. Use the experience to build skills!
Think about transportation and hours:
How will you get to work? How will you get home? Can you work weekends/evenings or just days. How many hours can you work per week, and how much money can you make per month?
Think about this question: “Why should I hire you?”
Businesses want hard working, reliable people who will get work done. Evaluate yourself and think about what skills/experiences you currently possess. Also, think about skills/experiences you may need to get to become a viable candidate for jobs. If you need to add to your skills, find ways to do it now. |
